This publication is dedicated to effective use of quantitative methods in scope of oncologic diseases in Poland. This is a precursory study on malignant tumours, which is based on register data (National Register of Tumours) and data of public payers (National Health Fund). The publication offers extensive and objective analyses, which are useful for purposes of decisions in scope of medical benefit contracting. The presented content is a must-read for health care executives, advisors, and analysts.

The study is composed of two main parts: theory and empiricism. It presents the main terminology concerning oncologic diseases, the demographic and sociological factors with impact on malignant tumour incidence, and international experiences in scope of methods used in modelling of oncologic diseases. It also presents empirical descriptive models for individual tumour groups, which are practical uses for the decision “trees” discussed in the theoretical part. The conducted analyses were used to present a projection of malignant tumour incidence and 5-year prevalence in Poland for the years 2015-2025.
