What is the structure of the document?

The document identifies the areas of functioning of health care facilities that allow the transformation of existing resources into long-term care centers or geriatric wards. The assumptions of the analysis and the organization of the provision of health services in the discussed areas were presented, as well as human resources and infrastructure potential were analyzed. The demand for long-term and geriatric care services and the demographic and social factors affecting it were discussed. A comparative analysis of supply and demand was performed, as well as an assessment of the possibility of transforming hospital wards, along with an indication of the directions of actions to be taken in the first place.

The document in particular examines the possible ways to:

  • increase the availability of long-term health care services by addressing identified gaps in the provision of long-term care, in particular at a district level;
  • eliminate inequalities in access to long-term health care services;
  • improve working conditions for medical staff; and
  • improve quality of the long-term care.
